When a producer for BBC Radio contacted me about a panel discussion program on the Garden of Eden, I couldn’t wait to participate. Off the Page is sort of a cross between This American Life-style narrative radio, and a genteel British version of American talk radio. Each panelist reads a short essay on the same topic, and then we discuss. This episode features novelist Tom Knox on why Gobekli Tepe site in Turkey might just be Eden; writer Zina Rohan on how Augustine ruined the story for Christianity by making it all Eve’s fault; and me on how American biblical literalism treats the Garden of Eden as a litmus test for conservative Christians.
